Assessing by Simulation the Effect of Process Variability in the SALB-1 Problem

The simple assembly line balancing (SALB) problem is a significant challenge faced by industries across various sectors aiming to optimise production efficiency and resource allocation. One important issue when the decision-maker balances how keep cycle time under given all cells, even though there variability in some parameters. When are stochastic elements, approaches use constraint relaxation, intervals for parameters, fuzzy numbers. In this paper, three-part algorithm proposed that first solves without considering parameters; then, using simulation, it measures effect of parameters (in case, inter-arrival time, processing times, speed material handling system which manually performed workers cell, number who perform tasks on machines); finally, add-on OptQuest SIMIO an optimisation constrain as decision variables. A Gearbox instance from literature solved with 15 14 precedence rules test approach. deterministic optimally open solver GLPK Pyomo programming language, and, keeps less than or equal 70 s presence time.
